benefits to childhood diseases

I've read before that a benefit to childhood diseases (think chicken pox, measles, etc) is a strengthened immune system and growth spurt. Am I imagining the growth spurt part???? Can anyone give me links to some benefits? Thanks!

I wouldn't know ... my experience with chicken pox was ... odd. My sibs got it when my mom was carrying me. Her old antibodies triggered and delivered me an immunity that lasted for 13 years! But then, I was exposed to a mutated strain while battling bronchitis. Next thing I know, I've got a cross between chicken pox and shingles. Don't think I had a growth spurt after that, but who knows? I was also in puberty ...

I've had them all well, Measles and Chicken pox. I'm 5'8" and healthy as genetics will allow I have GD, but honestly, I kinda saw that coming down the diabetic family tree a mile away.

I will say I think I have a strong immune system. When DS and DH had roto (DS for a week, and DH for 48 hours) I had one "bad poop" () and was over it. DH and DS were throwing up and the whole bit.
I also totally missed the flu every year (knock on wood) I honestly don't know that I have ever had the flu. I'm sure I have, I just can't remember.
Point being. I totally believe germs make you healthier.

Re: benefits to childhood diseases

Well, I had CP as a kid and I'm 5 foot on a good day with shoes on
My 3 year old is getting over the Chicken Pox- and for 2 days this kid is ravishing hungry- he's eating like crazy! That's what made me think of the article I read eons ago- something about how it's good to get the childhood illnesses because it bolsters your natural immune system so much (yes), but must have just been imagining the growth spurt part- although with my kid, it might just happen now anyway!
