Any one earning over 40K, as WAHM?

Contemplating the switch to WAH... but w/ mortgages and student loans (DH and mine)... in the negative at 40K so to switch need a WAH solution that really works...any out there?

keep in mind if you want to see 40K you need to sell about 80K of product. food for thought.

I actually--had not yet given it much thought-not sure if consulting, making/selling.
just wanted to see if it was possible, who had done it and doing what?

My mum does, but it takes years and years of building a business, a customer base, promoting yourself,etc.etc. Almost everyone I know in the professional artisan field has a full time day job, plus it does require extensive travel as she goes to art shows around teh country and is sometimes away for up to two weeks at a time, and pays thousands in booth fees, show fees, shipping,etc.

I agree with the previous poster.

in addition to all that is mentioned think about the equipment you need to bring forth you wares, you time involved, setting up as a business, business insurance and supplies. It does not comeovernight and most business that do well overnight in the wahm world don't linger long. At the end of the year you are in a different tax base when you file taxes as an independent contractor vs. and employee and know that you may have a payment due vs a check back.

Being a business and being a crafter claiming to be a business can be two different monitary worlds.

Keep in mind, for some this will all come fairly easy as they are an artist and passionate about their product, enough so to endure the hurdles or they are business oriented and positioning and marketing are going to be their strength.

It is not undoable, but requires work and dedication and the ability to go out of house to promote in my opinion. Take or leave any part of this, none of it may be fitting to you.

Your best bet for earning at that level is to try to parlay a professional, corporate type position into a telecommuting job. This may mean you still need to use daycare or a nanny, etc. but will probably have some flexibility in your schedule.
