Is all stainless steel created equal?
If I pay $18 for a Kleen Kanteen bottle, or $4 for a generic stainless steel bottle from Walmart, are they the same thing? Is there something better about the KK ones, or is it just the brand name? I have the KK ones that I use for myself, but I have been thinking about upgrading our plastic sippy cups to SS ones, and I'm wondering if I can get away with being cheap about it.

Re: Is all stainless steel created equal?
I have no idea, and am interested! We use all KKs in our house b/c my consignment shop has a new "green" product area and I bought them with my credit....so they were free! Before I got us all KKs, I tried a cheap one from Ross and all the paint chipped off around the rim so if I used it, I'd get paint flecks in my mouth. B/C of that, I didn't buy cheap Ross/Wal mart ones again. I felt wasteful throwing it out so quickly after buying it when the point of using SS is to create less waste.

Re: Is all stainless steel created equal?
I buy the KK ones because I know that there are no linings. For instance, Sigg bottles were recalled a year or two ago because they had BPA in the lining. Heaven only knows what are in the Walmart bottles.

Also you need to be sure they aren't lined aluminum bottles because that is of course not the same. Also the cheapy ones dent really easily. I thought the ones at my walmart were aluminum that has a lining (because aluminum is linked to alzheimers) but maybe I am not remembering correctly. I just invested in KK"s for the whole family but I do it one at a time and now we all have one.

Re: Is all stainless steel created equal?
I have been wondering the same thing! As PP said I will probably just invest one at a time for everyone starting with the baby. So, if I get some from a thrift store, how would I wash it to make sure it is really clean (I am kinda funny with buying things to drink out of from any resale)?
