Diaper rash... My first

Or well DS first rash. He has gotten red a time or two in the past but nothing like what he has now. It is just red all over and looks a lot like chaffed skin.

What do y'all do to treat rashes?
Also, I don't have any pins so I would have to snappi his prefolds, I guess I can use fleece pants as a cover for now.

Re: Diaper rash... My first

diaperless is one of the best methods! I usually just stick a fleece blankie underneath him to save our carpets (I know his pooping schedule so I just stuck him in a diaper when it was around that time) and use lanolin to slather his bottom when he's in a diaper. It'll take a few days but it helps. if it gets seriously bad, make very concentrated chamomile tea and let it cool down to where he can stand it and wash his bottom with it. I let him sit in it on the kitchen floor in a large turkey pan with a toy to keep him occupied so he'd get more soaked. It's super amazing for relieving pain and it's kind of antibacterial. Within the next day or two his was completely gone. (This was after a chemical burn turned into a super AWFUL rash so it was absolutely amazing. I gave it a try as a last resort before calling his ped. and I'm happy I did!)

DS recently had his first irritation/rash too as a result of teething diapers

We just used some coconut oil and it helped a ton! Washed right out of my diapers too.

I'm afraid to leave him diaperless as he is literally all over the place. I don't have any coconut oil; where can I get it?

You don't have an ammonia smell in the diapers do you? That can cause a yucky rash.

Ammonia typically started for us anywhere from 9-12 months old. Something about solid foods.

Is it after a poop or just from being wet?

Something about the concentration of the urine and solid foods that gave us issues when we moved into solids.

Anytime my kids ate peaches or watermelon - horrible rash.

Coconut oil - I've gotten it at Asian food stores - but I bet health food stores, or crunchy stores like Whole Foods would have it.

I think it is from his slightly loose stools, from teething. I live in the middle of nowhere so we don't have anything like that around, I'll just try to get him as much air as possible

Teething creates a super powerful antibacterial saliva. It's to fight germs that might get through the break in the gums. This strong saliva makes rashes on the cheeks and chins, and then when it's digested it does the same to the bottom cheeks. It should stop when the tooth comes in.

I love the chamomile sitz bath idea!
