? on frozen breast milk

DD is now 26mo's and weaned herself about 3mo's ago
Anyways I thought all the frozen milk was gone, but I found some in the deep freezer, would you still give it to your lo (it's anywhere from 15-17mo's old)
Thanks!

Re: ? on frozen breast milk

I would thaw a bag and if it looks ok, smells ok and tastes ok, I would go ahead and use it.

Breastmilk is typically safe in a deep freeze for 6-12 mos. As much as it would hurt to do so, I'd just toss it.

I can't remember precisely but I thought the max was somewhere around 6 months, less if in a regular freezer...

If it still smells/tastes ok, it's probably ok. You can even cook with it, although a lot of the good enzymes are destroyed by cooking, at this point since she's weaned already it's doesn't really matter.

(I heard about one mama who made mac & cheese...for the whole family )

Re: ? on frozen breast milk

My understanding is that the nutrients and antibodies start to deteriorate after 6 months or so, but that is NOT the same thing as "going bad." I think it would still be safe and okay, I just wouldn't give it every meal... Make sure she's still getting enough nutrition from her other meals.
