Re: What Are Your Birth Plans?

We are going with a water birth at our local free standing birth center just like we did with our first. I had an awesome experience there with my DD and I hope this time around it is just as great.

Re: What Are Your Birth Plans?

the plan will be an natural hospital birth with my CNM. I love the hospital that we use now (the first 2 I delivered somewhere else, that sort of sucked).

We are hoping insurance covers the free standing birth center which is an hour away from us. If not, its back to the hospital I go but with VERY specific instructions for what I want. However, I DO NOT want to go to the hospital. Our dream would be a homebirth but we are 40 min away from the nearest hospital and a windy back country road so the birth center feels a bit safer to us. Luckily I have births fast and with a long drive no matter where we end up, we won't be there long. If I HAVE to be at the hospital, I'm planning on signing myself out after the manditory 12 ish hours. Literally praying for the birth center as that's already a compromise from my dream of a home birth.
FYI check the policy for the baby at the hospital. I checked out as soon as I could and that was 24 hours before the pediatricians would release the baby. Just don't want you getting there and realizing that YOU can go but not with the baby. Better to know what to expect or have arguments prepared in advance.

Re: What Are Your Birth Plans?

Plan is the same as with DS, pretty much at least. Delivery at the hospital with a CNM and a doula. Last time around I had a narcotic when I got to the hospital because I couldn't calm down from the pain and was getting sick. That took me to 8 cm before I got the Epi. Hoping the 1 shot of narcotics can get me all the way through this time around, but if I need the epi I'll get it. I like the idea of going home quickly, but unless birth centers start using drugs I'll stick with the hospital ;-)
