Do you do kick counts?

If so, how? And did your dr/midwife recommend doing them?

I've had some drs tell me to and other times they don't even mention it.

Re: Do you do kick counts?

No, I don't do them and I've never been told to do them. I've always just been told to make sure baby is moving regularly and if I don't feel her to drink something cold and take it easy for a bit.

No, I don't do them. If I feel like I haven't heard from LO in a while, I cheat and check her out w/ my doppler . But, as PP said, just lie down, or eat candy bar to see if you get LO moving again.

Me too.

Also, with my second, my placenta was in the front and I am pretty active, so I would go long stretches without feeling him. At times I would really have to sit down and focus to feel the movements when he was smaller.

Re: Do you do kick counts?

I didn't with my first. I don't remember if the doctor mentioned them much at all; pretty much I would just push on her a bit if I didn't feel her move in a while, and see if she kicked back

Re: Do you do kick counts?

My midwife asked me about it at the end with Zoee, but I have never done it with any of my pregnancies. I feel baby randomly throughout the day, and if I notice it has been awhile I will "pester" them until I feel them kick around. But they were never consistent enough to try and count kicks within an hour or what not.

Re: Do you do kick counts?

I've always been asked to do kick counts with my high risk pregnancies. My twins were forever moving so it was a quick thing to do. My 3rd wasn't high risk (although was more high risk than any of my high risk pregnancies) and I never did them with him. But with my last 2 I had to lay down for 30 mins and see how long it took to get however many kicks they told me. With my twins and my 4th I had a nurse call me every evening to go over contractions, kick count and my BP/urine. With my last it was similar but no one called me to go over it. I didn't have to do my BP/urine at home either. Just report it to my dr if it was less than a certain number in 30 mins or took more than 30 mins to get that desired number.
It's really not necessary but if you're high risk and have pre-e or GD they usually recommend you do it because you have a higher chance of stillbirth or placenta issues.

Re: Do you do kick counts?

My doctor said for right now not to worry about kick counts, but to realize that baby will be active during the day and to recognize patterns. I'm having a bit of trouble recognizing her patterns, I feel like she moves all day and night long!

Wow! 22wks? I never had to do mine until well into the 3rd trimester.
