How many CD's for a newborn??

We used disposables for our DD several yrs ago and now that LO #2 is on the way, we are going to switch to CD. I was thinking about doing a size small for the NB-first couple months. If I plan on doing laundry every other day, how many dipes should I shoot for in my stash?

Re: How many CD's for a newborn??

The most common answer I got was 36 dipes to wash every other day. That give you 12 a day, plus enough to get you through washing and drying.

Also, I originally was going to go with size S and OS stuff for a newbie. DS was over 9 lbs. I'm expecting a bigger baby again this time. After looking at tons of newborn pics threads, I decided to go with an actual newborn stash. It is really important to me to have the cord uncovered. DS got a MRSA infection in his. Even on bigger babies, cords are covered in most of the small and OS stuff I saw. There are programs where you can rent newborn dipes. I know 1 ends up being only $50 after you return everything.

Great info! Now that you mention it, we did have some issues w/ DD's cord being covered even with the sposies.
Where can you find out about renting dipes? Is it just a simple Google search or do you have to talk to your OB or the hospital or somewhere else?

Re: How many CD's for a newborn??

There are some listed at the end of this diaper trial program thread.

I did a search on here for "newborn rental" and turned up a few threads talking about different programs.

The Green Baby Store
Itsy Bitsy Bums

There are more. Each program offers different dipes. I'd choose the one for me based on what kind of dipes I was wanting to use. For us, we're going mostly fitteds and wool covers. I have some flats, too, just for experimentation purposes.

24 was plenty for me, I wash daily though.

36 was my perfect number, I had 3 dozen prefolds and it was great!
