Herbal Teas
I know you are not really suppossed to drink caffiene while pregnant but in my effort to get rid of soda, I a drinking a bit more tea. I have heard that you shouldn't drink herbal tea. I did however just drink some raspberry flavored tea but am wondering now if it has raspberry leaf since it is all natural, now I am frekaing out a little. What is the real risk of drinking this stuff, I am thinking I should just drink water instead.
It is peace tea brand, just says natural tea and sugar on back.

Re: Herbal Teas
I would not worry a bit! Most herbal teas at the store do not have a particularly strong dose of any herb.
BTW I take red raspberry leaf as part of a herbal infusion all through pg. . I know some people are scared of it as a uterine irritant, but for most it helps to strengthen the uterus. (I also take nettle, alfalfa, and oat straw for some great mineral and vitamins. And I have no problems drinking mint tea or chamomile tea either. I did this last pg and will this time. Of course, be as cautious as you are comfortable with, but you shouldn't be worried.) There are a few herbs that are contraindicated for pg, but I doubt they would be in your run-of-the-mill tea AND you'd have to ingest quite a bit. So rest easy mama!

Re: Herbal Teas
Good, thanks. I forgot that the biggest pregnancy symptom is worry!

Re: Herbal Teas
I think other than a handful of herbs, the main "concern" with herbal teas is the lack of regulation. Just like herbal supplements. The govt doesn't recommend them because there is no way to "know for certain" that what they claim to be is what they truly are. Does that make sense? Kind of like taking pills strangers give you... there's no guarantee. Although with all the recalls on regulated foods and medications, it's pretty much all blind faith
