Totally just laughed and snorted That is so us. DH is dyslexic so I have to spell slowly and wait for him to catch on, lol

"cold stuff" is ice cream. "D" is dessert. DS1 is 9 so he is in on the discussions DH and I have about whether we're going to indulge in an after dinner treat. He comes up with some pretty good "over their head" descriptions for things, too. And sometimes he spells.

My favorite is when the little ones get whiny and DS1 asks me, "Do you think it might be time for an N.A.P.?" Then DD says, "I don't need a nap!" and DS2 says "I'm not sweepy!"

We used to spell, but DS1 is almost 8 and way too good at spelling and knows everything, but he already knows about "coloring" and we have regular talks.

BTW, in the Sex and the city movie, Charlotte refers to sex as "coloring" in front of her daughter.

We refer to dtd at "banana pancakes" Hey babe those were some great banana pancakes last night! My husband chaperoned a high school drama trip recently and he and the other chaperones were having this conversation when one of the girls (students) asked what his code was. She insisted on knowing and when he told her she said he had just ruined her favorite breakfast!!

We used to spell around DSS, but he's learning to spell now, so we're gonna need a new plan! My favourite instance was when he was about 2.5 and we were discussing the p-a-r-k, and he yelled out "I WANT THAT!" and DF asked "want what?" "Whatever that thing you just spelled!"
He figured out that if we spell it, then it MUST be good pretty quickly. haha

Re: "Code words" you use around your LO

since our dating days, we've always referred to it as playing video games. we were both game geeks when we met, so no one has ever thought different [and DH still is, so it still works!].

OMG these are cracking me up! We call DTD "checking the mail" - When we first got married we lived in an apartment and we had to walk to to get to the mailbox so it took awhile, so we used it as an excuse when framily or friends called and we were ummmm busy haham it has just stuck (for 12 years) so we still say it... haha
