Nevermind. I should have said "thought provoking"... But I'm removing the link because... Reading the rest of the thread makes me sad (and feeling guilty).

I guess it's only fair to say my own opinion. I did find the comparison really surprising and blown out of proportion. At the same time, I feel that a lot of people, including the medical community, don't support breastfeeding in proportion to how wonderful it is.

It's all about making educated, informed choices, no matter what you decide or need to do.

Exactly. The only thing that irked me was the listing "lower IQ" as a risk of formula feeding. From what I understand/have read, a baby's IQ isn't lowered by formula feeding, but can be enhanced/raised by breast feeding.

I know when I struggled to nurse DS1 after my c-section, (milk didn't come in for 8 days), my wonderful lactation consultant told me that my main goal was to feed my baby, whether that was with breastmilk or formula. Luckily I was able to EBF later on, but it really made me realize that formula was not the devil that I had made it out to be and allowed me to feed my child when I physically couldn't.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I wouldn't consider formula feeding on anywhere near the same level as smoking. While I understand the point, and agree with informed decisions, the comparison is kind of ridiculous to me. None the less, thanks for sharing.

All of my thoughts exactly. Smoking and formula feeding just are NOT on the same page, sorry, but NO!

Where's that like button?

Honestly, people get hit over the head again and again and again with the "breast is best" message. The people who think that formula feeding is just as good as breastfeeding are in the minority. Most times, I hear moms making excuses as to why they aren't breastfeeding because they feel guilty. Yes, breast is best. But putting it on the level of smoking is reductio ad absurdum, and is incredibly insulting to those women who tried until they bled and cried to breastfeed but couldn't continue.

Re: Thought you would like this article: Offending a Pregnant Woman

so beyond offensive to compare smoking and formula feeding.

I'd also like to know where this woman finds her made up statistics. "Formula feeding, in about 99% of cases, is something that a person chooses to do."
