Question about second time moms oversupply

Okay, when my son was born (20 months ago) it took forever for anything to come out of my Breast like 5-6 days....now with this baby I'm 3 days PP I feel so full like painfully full, she nurses like a champ an feeds 25-35 mins. Should I pump some or is there anything for relief..... it's crazy, I have enough for triplets it seems like!!

ETA: when she was 1 day old she had to go to the NiCU to watch her breathing an they made me pump nothing came out though..... (gave her formula grrrr,,,,,,) could that had something to do with it??

Yeah, the first one sort of "primes the pump" so to speak! My 3rd is 3 months old and he was already having the transitional poo at 2 days PP. You could hand express a little to relieve some pressure and so it is not so hard for her to latch. Or use a manual pump or whatever you have.

Your supply will regulate by 4-6 weeks, then you'll be wondering if she's getting enough because you don't feel full anymore. At least that's how I felt! Congrats on the new babe!

Re: Question about second time moms oversupply

With my second baby I felt like I had enough milk for the neighborhood! I am tandem nursing, so I would grab my toddler and sort of beg her to nurse when I felt like I was going to explode, but I also used my hand pump to relieve some of the pressure and make my breast soft enough for my nb to latch on well. After a week or so I didn't need the pump anymore. And I still have a little supply in the freezer! Don't worry, your supply should level out soon.

Re: Question about second time moms oversupply

When our milk first comes in, our body doesn't know how much we truly need. Do we need to feed just one baby? Twins? Triplets? It's mother nature at its finest. Once our body realizes it only needs to produce enough for one baby (or twins, etc) anywhere between 4-6 weeks, that's when we notice a huge dip in our supply. Of course not every mother regulates completely and will go on to always feel so engorged.

I freaked out when this happened! I went from having HUGE breasts full to the brim with milk, to feeling deflated and nearly 2 cup sizes smaller. I was convinced I had lost my milk, so I went on a crazy search for all sorts of lactogenics to boost my supply This also seems to perfectly coincide with baby's 6 week growth spurt, which fuels the frantic fire that we are out of milk.
