Is it okay to donate blood while breastfeeding?

Re: Giving blood

The U.S. Red Cross allows it as long as you're 6+ weeks postpartum. Some other organizations are a little iffy on it--seems like the Canadian Red Cross won't let you if you're breastfeeding, but I don't remember for sure. I have done it just about every time I'm eligible (every 8 weeks) and can arrange for childcare. I've never had a problem with supply or anything.

Here's a Kellymom link:

Re: Giving blood

I think the Canadian Blood Services is actually +6 months (i.e. the baby is on solids)...however, I decided to wait until I weaned because I find that giving blood does make me more tired for a few days, and I didn't need to add that on top of night feedings
