Adhd support thread?

Would there be enough interest to have one? I know our battles are daily here. I feel like we are out casts from mine and his peers. It would be so nice to have some support.

I could use support, I often feel the same way. Our battles are also daily, and I know that his peers, friends and family don't see/understand most of what we go through.

Even worse than that is the people who spout off about ritalin being overprescribed or adhd is overdiagnosed, etc. But they don't fight my battles every single day. Or know what it is like to have your child sobbing during homework because he can't concentrate. I love my child, and he really is an amazing child, but sometimes? I hate ADHD.

My ADHD child and my husband (and younger son) are all at overnight scout camp this week, and I am a nervous wreck. The other mothers looked at me like I was crazy, but I know his crash, his outburst is coming, I just don't know when. And I don't know how to get others to understand that, when they see him at his best, usually.

This exactly! Even grandparents are not as sympathizing as i would have expected. Its hard, my adhd child is so well behaved when we are out and about and saves all the melt downs for me

My favorite is those people who insist it doesn't exist and is all a parenting issue. :/

All of these. My parents told me there was nothing wrong with him. Then told me not to come back after his bad behaviour.

My besties husband told me it didnt exhist. I should spank him. it woyld "cure" him.

I was told not to come back to play group.

But the ultimate insult... "what is wrong with your child" from a stranger. That one still stings.

I hate adhd. I wish my boy didnt have it. (cry)

I'm here with ya! I'd love a support thread. My oldest is ADHD, ODD and SPD At 4.5 years old, she is starting to become more outcasted by peers who are noticing she is different. It wreaks havoc on our marriage, too! I really think it'd be great, to have one!

Re: Adhd support thread?

I would love to participate as well! As sad as it is, it really is nice to be able to relate to other parents who understand it is NOT a parenting issue...

That is the hardest for me as well, people saying that I just don't discipline him. We deal with ADHD, SPD, and ODD as well. My marriage is also a mess since we are both constantly on edge.

We are in the middle of trying to figure out medication. That is a whole other mess. And we have started OT, but even the ot isn't sure how to deal with him.
