WTF Easter Basket *head desk*

My former MIL called last week to tell me that she was sending Nola an easter basket and a dress she made.. and so on. Well it showed up. My boyfriend opened the box and gave it to me to remove items I didn't want my daughter to have. I don't feed her candy (except that time I was eating mini M&M's in front of her and I gave her one for each hand). So I opened the box and remove the basket and handed her the things that aren't food.

That is the candy that was in the basket. My daughter is not even 2 1/2 yet!!! What in the living hell was my ex-MIL thinking putting that much candy in a basket for a child who's sugar consumption comes from organic unsweetened apple juice?!!%#!

My boyfriend thinks I should thank ex-MIL for her kindness, but inform her that I would prefer that she not send candy anymore. Which I should, but I really don't want to be mean or hurtful.

Grandparents are no fun sometimes.

My kids don't get a lot of candy but I do splurge sometimes with easter or b-day parties. Something like that they could eat on for a year though Makes for good snacks for mom and dad though

I think you can be polite and thank her for her thoughfulness in remembering your dd, but at the same time let her know (gently) that you don't allow your child to have so much sugar. I would just say something like "my goodness - that is more sugar than she eats in an entire year!" If she doesn't get the hint, just give her what you want her to have and ditch the rest.

It was the thought that counts mama.. maybe just tell her that it was awsome that she bought all the goodies.. but that was alot of goodies.. and your dd usually likes dried fruit instead.. or something or .. maybe next year say that your dd really needs shoes.. or something.. but that was her thinking of your dd.. not trying to be ugly ..
