dr. christopher's birth prep/herbal preps?

was reading online about dr. christopher's birth prep...it's a pre-natal vitamin that is supposed to help body prepare for labor and shorten labor...also wondering if anyone has experience with using evening primrose oil or other herbs that helped labor start early/shorten labor time...

I used primrose oil last time. I took it by mouth. I think I inserted it a few times. I didn't have baby until 42 weeks 2 days. Not sure that it did much. I think I will be more on top of using it this time. I have not heard of dr. christophers. I have heard of nature's sunshine 5-w. I didn't use it last time but I plan on using it this time. I think I will probably order it around 30-32 weeks just to make sure it is here by the time I'm ready to use it.

Re: dr. christopher's birth prep/herbal preps?

Just looked up the difference in ingredients.

Here is dr Christopher's:
Squawvine Herb, Blessed Thistle Herb, Black Cohosh Root, Pennyroyal Herb, False Unicorn Root, Red Raspberry Leaf & Lobelia Herb.

Here is 5-w
Black cohosh root, squaw vine herb, dong quai root, butcher's broom root and red rasberry leaves.

So they are different. I may ask my midwife which is better.

My midwives recommend the nature's sunshine 5-W and Dr. Christopher's as their 2nd choice. they did say to make sure not to use anything with BLUE cohosh in it, but black is okay.

Re: dr. christopher's birth prep/herbal preps?

I've been taking the Dr Christopher's for 3 days now so I have no idea how/if it will work. I do know I have been having crazy strong contractions since I started it.

I've done EPO my last 2 pregnancies. With my 1st I was induced at 39 weeks due to pre e but did have a pretty easy induction considering it was my 1st. My 2nd I went into labor at 41+ weeks and had a 36 hour long labor (even though I was between 4-5 cm when labor started). I'm doing the EPO again but starting it earlier (also started it at 34 weeks) and doing more vaginally than I have in the past.

I used EPO (orally) both of my previous pregnancies and I believe I started pretty early like 34 weeks. I was 2 cm dilated when induced at 37 weeks with DD, and 3 cm when induced at 38 weeks with DS.

Re: dr. christopher's birth prep/herbal preps?

I used Dr. Christopher's the last two times and I swear by it. It definitely cause a lot of strong BHX but that is why it works so well. The last 2 times I was well over 5cm before I had any real active labor and discomfort. I can't wait to start taking it again. I keep calculating in my head how many weeks left till I need to buy it I found it online here for half the price that my local health food store charges for it so I'm stoked! I also heard taking it for a few days after birth helps decrease bleeding. I plan to try that this time. I haven't heard of the other one mentioned but I plan to check it out since PP say their MW reccomend them over the Dr. Christopher's. I used EPO with #1 and I can't really say it helped at all but some people claim it does. I was induced at 42wk at 2cm and about 40% effaced and no contractions.

***UPDATE*** I checked with my MW last night and she said she highly reccomends Dr. C's to her patients
