Had my first OB appointment today....sorta....

So today was supposed to be an "intake OB" visit. Since this is a new OB for me altogether. Technically I was supposed to go in and do all the paperwork (which I did) and get all my family history and such. After discussing everything from my pregnancy with my daughter, and everything I've been with so far, the visit took a different path.

This OB takes High Risk pregnancies very seriously, which I am considered high risk. So once we discussed everything, they went ahead and scheduled me an appointment with the doctor himself for next Thursday so we can get an "early plan" going. They ordered me to have betas every 72 hours, until it is over 1600, at which they will perform an ultrasound. I had my first draw today, and will have the results tonight (because I'm going to the hospital myself and signing a release). My levels were going up pretty quick the two times they tested them (nearly tripling in 46 hours), so I don't think it should take long for them to get high enough for the ultrasound.

When I talked with them about the preterm labor with DD, they discussed a home medical company they work with. For preterm risk pregnancies, they will actually have me wear a uterine activity monitor for set times at home to watch and make sure I'm doing good. Seeing as I didn't feel any of my contractions even in full blown labor with my daughter, I wouldn't know if they were happening or not. The information is then transferred to a High Risk RN at a large city hospital (St. Louis, MO) for monitoring. They will also be available 24/7 for questions or concerns I may have, plus they will have the ability to contact me if things look abnormal at all. This really really put my mind to ease because my biggest fear is going into labor and not knowing it.

Okay, so all that rambling...lol. Thanks for reading if you made it through

Telemonitoring! I had a paramedic telling me about that a couple of years ago when it was brand new for OB patients. I've never known anyone who had used it. I can't wait to see how it goes for you. Of course, I hope it turns out to be unnecessary!

make sure the home uterine monitoring is covered by your insurance. I know several policies that I handle don't cover it at all.
