Re: When did you start solids?

At 6 months for both kids (or maybe a few days before). DD was very grabby with our plates by 5 months, but once we gave her food she was pretty ambivalent about it. DS was similarly grabby, but when we started him on solids he went NUTS! The kid loves food and starts getting very vocal and excited the second we put him in his high chair. What a difference!

Mine was failure to thrive and tube-fed with an ng tube so we weaned him off it at 5 months and he loved the spoon and his banana rice cereal!!! Now he's doing great and eating like a champ only 5 weeks later!!

Re: When did you start solids?

Hi,

In the UK 6 months is the recommended. However 14 years ago, when I had my first baby, it was about 4 months!

My sister - who is a midwife - has heard talk that some babies are proving difficult to wean at 6 months and there is talk of lowering the rcommended age to 5 months!!

So, like so many things, the 'experts' can't make their minds up ;-)

I think its best to just do what you feel best for you and your baby though I think there are good physiological reasons for not weaning before 4 months.

Melissa

Re: When did you start solids?

Very happy healthy active and big baby boy....we started rice cereal once a day at 4 months which he loved. Bananas and sweet potatoes (seperately of course) at 5 months, and by 6 months we really took off. He will eat ANYTHING now at almost 1 yr.

Wren is doing the same. She's just a few days younger than Cecilia and she'll try and grab my hand if I have food, and reach for our plates, as well as make mouthing motions. It's making me feel really conflicted because I was/am planning to wait until she is 6 months since that is what is recommended, but she just seems to want to eat so badly Not sure what to do, just keep holding out I guess until 6 months.

We did BLW and she didn't show an interest until around 8-9 months.

Before three months with both my older kids (now almost four and ten). With this one, probably right around four months (he's three and a half months right now).

Kinsey is also doing this and they just turned 5 months. I am still trying to wait till 6 months. Luke has shown no interest in what we are eating.

My oldest started at six months, but my baby girl started at four months. She really, really wants food - as in grabbing our food and drinks and lunging at our plates! She really only gets a few bites a day.
