FL vs. TL experiment

I have a front-loading GE high efficiency washer at home and I was able to use a top-loader for two weeks ... I thought I would just share my findings for anyone who is wondering or considering a new washer!

In front-loader:

Stains come out much better. In fact, I have very little staining.
My diaper laundry ALWAYS has a stink to it coming out of the washer - like a wet dog, just not clean smell.
Diapers still look like new.

In top-loader:

Stains did not wash out AT ALL. My diapers were not stained before they washed in this washer.
NO stink. None. My diaper laundry smelled like nothing!
I noticed a HUGE amount of wear on my diapers after just two weeks washing in this washer.

So to sum it up, in the front loader you have no stains, newer looking diapers but they stink! In the top loader there is no smell! Hurray! But stains easier and it is much harder on the diapers.

That's interesting! I agree that a FLer leaves laundry looking less beat up, there is no agitator to do the beating.

Do you leave your front loader door open when its not being used? If I shut mine when the inside is still wet it can become smelly. Our Kenmore repair guy told us to use a bleach/water solution and wipe out the rubber ring once a month.

Yes I do. And I bleach it on an empty cycle once a month. But it still smells!

I have never washed my diapers in anything but our HE Top Loader. My diapers still look great after over 2 years of use and will now be used on our DS due in Aug. My TL does not have an agitator. I have no stains, this is probably because I use a fleece liner always. I love my washer. . I also have no stink issues.

Re: FL vs. TL experiment

At our last duty station we had a TL and it took a toll on the diapers when we got to our new station we bought a FL and I love how the diapers do not look so beat up but I do agree with a wet musty smell......

Which he TL do you have? This is the direction I'm going in when we are ready to get a new one.
