Breastfeeding hold

DD and I have been using the football hold since birth (recommended by NICU LC) today I attempted to nurse using cradle hold (easier for bfing in public w/o a pillow) and she wouldn't. Any suggestions?

Try starting her in football on one side, partway through feeding try sliding her gently into cross-cradle on the other breast. After she and you can do cross-cradle, try cradle.

Practice. My DD would only nurse in the football hold, too. But she got too big for me to hold that way. Her legs didn't fit in the little space between me and the chair anymore. It took a few tries but finally she got comfortable in the other position. Just keep trying!

Re: Breastfeeding hold

If at first you don't succeed....try try again! :-) My LO was the same way, she got too big for the football hold and we had to switch. What made it easier for us is when I was trying a new hold, we sat in a different chair, not our usual one. I think she knew that the one recliner was her kitchen table and didn't want it any other way. When I sat on the couch she had no problem. Good luck mama!

Re: Breastfeeding hold

My Brestfriend pillow. If I could shout this from the rooftops I would. It is not the cheapest nursing pillow on the market but it made the difference between nursing and formula for my family.

My daughter would not latch cradle at all. This pillow made it so she was at the perfect angle and perfect height for her to latch. At about 2 months I quit using it and she nurses wonderfully now anywhere and everywhere.

Re: Breastfeeding hold

I so heart the My Brest Friend pillows (I use both the regular one, and the Twins one.) I couldn't live without them!

Agree with everyone...just keep trying. And the recommendation of starting in the football hold and then sliding her to a more manageable hold is a good one.

Good luck!

Re: Breastfeeding hold

I was going to recommend the brest friend before I saw the other 2 prior comments My dd was also preemie, at most: 35 weeks, 4 lbs 8 oz. She was amazingly awesome at nursing so i didnt really have any problems but I did have problems with the boppy. The brest friend is still great at 9 months old. DD also learned with the football hold but transitioned easily into any hold as long as she got her boob. How is ur lo doing, I see ur op is like a week old
