Re: Question about newborn weight loss....please help!

Don't give up! Keep feeding frequently and pump if you can. This happened to me and the doctor told me to supplement with formula. I did for one feeding and cried the whole time. The next day his weight was up and the whole episode was behind us.

He gained an ounce!!! He is up to 7 lbs 4 oz, and the pediatrician looked him over and said he looked great. ,Two peds in the practice specialize in breastfed babies so those are the two I am going to stick with for check ups. Glad I didnt give him formula, that would have been unecessary!

Re: Question about newborn weight loss....please help!

My twins and my sixth baby did this as well and the doctors kept freaking me out telling me that we would have to put them on formula, I kept resisting though because they were having 8-10 BM's a day and lots of wet diapers and never seemed unhappy. I never did put any of them on formula and they started gaining at about 3 weeks and became chunky little monkeys. Trust your instincts and if the baby seems happy and is having appropriate diapers, I would just tell them no thank you to the formula.

I took him in today just for a weight check for my peace of mind and since wednesday he has gained an ounce! He is up to 7 lbs 5 oz!! He is not on track to be be back to his birth weight by Thursday when he is two weeks old but I feel confident that if he is gaining weight, eating well, and having enough dirty and wet diapers he is doing great, and will not need any formula!

DS has had some green poop, the ped saw it and said if its not frothy or mucousy then its not a concern, but most of his poop is yellow so I.dont know if all green poop is a problem?
