Tips for making prefolds more absorbent?

I recently started using prefolds because I really like them. However, as I suspected would happen, my daughter pees through them really fast. (Which is why I've used thick fitteds all this time...) Does anyone have any suggestions for making them last longer than an hour or so? And my daughter doesn't drink a lot of liquids... I'm actually trying to UP her liquid intake.

Thanks for your ideas....

I insert a doubler (or a flat folded several times) in the trifolded pf sometimes, or put on a bigger pf and double that over in the front... dd's pee zone, it's been helping us and it's not overly bulky.

We love our Microfiber doublers here. But with prefolds I don't make them into doublers. I just use the towels themselves and lay them over the prefold and fold them in with it as I would normally fold it. HTH

what style prefold do you use? I used to use the Gerber before I realized they held NOTHING. I was given a couple of chinese prefolds and they became our overnight stuffing because they held so much more. Now I have a whole stash of them for my youngest son and the coming baby. They hold my heavy wetter for a good three hours without trouble. For overnight for a long while I was using a 5 layer fitted with a fleece inner and a prefold as a doubler. He wasn't even wet on the fitted in the morning! There are things that can help, like a doubler of hemp, microfiber, or wool. Maybe they're not absorbing as much because or a residue buildup, have you tried stripping?

I use a trifolded preemie PF or some other small doubler.

I use 2 different doublers.
Polar babies staydry hemp for night time
For daytime and outings I use Zany Zebra stay dry doublers. You choose hemp or organic cotton and fleece or suedecloth.

I agree, get some doublers! Same started happening with my ds and I went out and bought a bunch of pricey fitteds . Didn't occur to me until after that I should have just bought doublers!!

I buy the cheapo blue microterry cloths from walmart or sams club. Then, trifold it and lay it either in the trifolded cpf or under it and then fasten the cover. It goes at least 2-3 hours.

I use the stay dry doubler from cb. That way its not soaked through w/1 pee and she doesn’t have wetness on her skin.

I can't make a prefold last more than one pee even with a doubler! Guess that's the price I have to pay for having a boy! I don't mind changing often though, so for me, it's no big deal! I am going to make some microfiber doublers for my embellished prefolds.
