I've had the Mirena since 8w pp. I was pumping 60 oz a day, so no supply problems for sure!

I get periods, but they don't bleed, just spot. No problems with it at all and no more babies either!

ETA: I've had it for almost 2 years now.

On a side note, does anyone know how much the mini-pill is? We don't have insurance, and we're paying for everything OOP. I know the Mirena is around $1000, but it lasts five years.
Wowza. I can't believe it's $1000 in the US. I think mine was $450 CAD when I had it put in in Feb (though we have insurance that completely covered it). I am one of the weirdos that bleeds for 3 months solid after having it put in which was surprising.

But... it's completely awesome now. No issues with BFing or pumping over here... no regular periods -- occasional spotting for a day or 2. No longer need to the super heavy duty pad/tampons (sometimes used in combination).. nothing but lites and regulars in my house now

We won't be TTC for at least another year and a half (or 2 years from when I had it put in) so it made sense. If you're just planning on waiting 6 months, I don't think I'd bother.

Re: BC while BFing - Mini-Pill or Mirena?

I have Mirena and love it!! I got it 6 wks pp. I did bleed for a little while after. But I did not get my period back until my dd started weaning at 31 months. But then I only barely spotted. I have been on the reg pill before and Mirena hasn't messed with my hormones as much. Barely at all. I never had any supply issues. Good luck!

That's what I think I will be doing (I'm still trying to convince DH to just not prevent and let #2 come whenever ).

Re: BC while BFing - Mini-Pill or Mirena?

Great info on this thread!

How does the mini-pill prevent conception? From the reading I've done, it all says it prevents ovulation in about half of the women taking it. In the other half of women, it says it prevents thickens cervical mucus, making it almost impossible for the sperm to make its way through the fallopian tubes, to fertilize the egg. I don't like how some BC doesn't prevent ovulation, just implantation, but I thought mini-pill didn't do that?
