Re: Calling all Pregnant Grammas!

Congrats! I am not a grandma, but my mom had my sister at 40. My little sister and I were 18 years apart, sadly she passed away this year in a car accident (with several in between). My sister and my oldest daughter were only 7 years apart and were great friends!

Re: Calling all Pregnant Grammas!

Congratulations, Mama and Gramma! It kind of blows my mind that people can become grandparents in their 30s. My parents were 38 and 42 when they adopted me, and they had no other children. While a lot of their friends close to them in age were becoming grandparents, I was going through puberty. My ILs were 40 and 39 when DH came along, but he was the youngest of 4 and his oldest sister was 15. Given that she married at 19, had she been able to have kids, he would have been a young uncle.

Re: Calling all Pregnant Grammas!

Thanks everyone!

Tina, I told my daughter that when we are in public, my own child might take up calling me 'grandma' like my grandson will.. I worry that it might be confusing for them.. does it seem to work out ok with yours?

I look forward to looks of shocks though.. My 16yo dyes her hair various colors, just for the shock value.. I have to admit it's hilarious living in the 'bible belt'..

averysydneymommy, I am sorry to hear about your sister.

Re: Calling all Pregnant Grammas!

It was never confusing to my kids or my brothers. Like I said, it's mostly weird for them to try to explain to other people. My one brother, that is just older than my oldest, is great friends with my son. They have a lot of similar interests and have always gotten along great.

For my brothers, they've never really known me as a sibling, per se. I've always been an adult/mother of their friend figure. They know I'm their sister, but never remember me in that light, yk?

No, I havent had any problems with my own littles calling me grandma, unless Ellie wants to be a stinker and is imitating my granddaughter Lovlina. My kiddos were always real clear that I was MAMA, not Grandma to my grandbabies lol!
