Question Another potty training question...

DS turned 3 in feb. He's been pee-accident free since at least 2.5. Yet, this whole time he's asked for a diaper to poop. Here and there Ive' gotten one or two days of poop on the potty, then he starts crying & asking for a diaper & I don't want to cause problems so i give him a diaper.

Today, he didn't even ask, he just went to his room, took off his pants, put on a nightime pull up and went in the bathroom for privacy. WWYD? Let him have diapers for a while since he's clearly emotionally not ready? I tried bribing him with a lollypop every time he poops in the potty, he didn't go for it. Or should I push the topic since he clearly has the physical ability?

This is where I start to think the ECers are on to something......

Re: Another potty training question...

Is he standing or sitting once he has his diaper? If he's standing, I would guess it's a muscle memory thing, but I don't know how to remedy it.

Re: Another potty training question...

my oldest was the same way he was 2.5 when he started using the potty he could even make it all night in undies but he would not poop in the potty and would ask for a diaper when he had to go. I think it had to do with sitting on the big potty he felt unsecure and it took about 8-9 months before he stopped asking for a diaper to poop in, I never pushed him and he grew out of it

Re: Another potty training question...

I wouldn't push it...but maybe offer treats or something special if he poops in the potty.

Dd has had a hard time too. She is more comfortable standing when she poops so it's been hard for her to do it sitting. She has just started to go in the potty more than in her panties, so hopefully we are making progress.
