My bumGenius seconds are repelling like crazy

New to CD here, just was wondering what the heck was up. I put my BG XS's through the wash by themselves with Charlie's soap and dried them on medium before use. Put them on DS and when he peed it was as if it shot out the leghole like a cannon. So I tested the absorbancy of the BGs and I can put a quarter cup of water and it just sits on top and runs off if I angle the diapers leaving them completely dry. I could literally eat a bowl of soup out of these diapers and not have to clean them afterwards.

What gives? I guess $6 for interesting soupbowls isn't too bad, but not exactly what I had in mind. DS is probably around 6 lbs 4oz, so he's at the bottom of the weight range. Or it might be that I totally suck at putting on diapers, since I've never really done it before(but my GMD preemie prefolds w/Bummi SB covers don't leak).

TIA,

Brandon

I would try running them with a hot wash/rinse and no detergent and re-drying. They could still have detergent in them (AIOs take extra rinses in my experience), or chemicals from manufacture.

It sounds like it could be fit and he just doesn't have enough chub on him to fill it out the diapers.

You might need to strip them. I like using Sport Wash to do this. It is less harsh than Dawn and only requires one extra rinse. You can find it at Walmart or a local sporting goods store. A few cd stores carry it. If you would like a direct link to it pm me.

You shouldn't have to strip new diapers.

Are they on him tight enough? The suedecloth needs the pressure of his bum to push the pee through. The drip test is not an accurate test for repelling.

This ^

How is the fit? If it shot through at the legs, like you say, is there a big gape at the legs for the pee to come out?

did you prep them by only washing once? if so, that's your problem, you need to wash them a few more times.

My vote is on fit--they need to be snug, and not have gaps at the legs. At 6 lbs, he might just not be big enough for them yet.

Mine have been leaking too. ??? My LO is 17 lbs and I have him in size medium. His aren't leaking through the legs though. When he's laying on his back, it leaks up by his waist. I change him every 2 hours. Maybe it is because I only washed them once, but I didn't think they had to be 'prepped' by washing more than once either.
