milk for Miley (( my in PA asking for donations )) MADE ME CRY
Tyrone Baby Needs Breast Milk Donations Watch the news report here: http://www.wjactv.com/news/28613805/detail.html (( local news report )) MAKES ME CRY EVERY TIME>>>> TYRONE, Pa. -- It's a mother's nightmare: watching her infant waste away because of a growth disorder. At only a little over 6-pounds, Baby Miley looks like a happy newborn, but she actually turns three months old this week. The reason Miley is so small, she was born with a growth disorder. "It sucks,” said Julie Palmonka, Miley’s mother. “You don't know what to do." She said it got even worse. By the time Miley was two-weeks-old, she weighed only two pounds and 11 ounces. "We needed to do something different. I was currently breast feeding her at the time. (The doctor) said we need to put her on formula." Palmonka said she quickly found out Miley is allergic to formula. Miley couldn't start breast feeding again because her mother can no longer produce milk. "She just withered away in front of us,” Palmonka said. Her mom said she became desperate. "I just did whatever I could. I drove an hour and 20 minutes one way, just to pick up 10 oz. of milk. That's only enough for a few bottles, not even enough for a full day." She even posted ads on Craigslist. "We spent countless hours online. After I put my kids to bed, I'm up until three or four in the morning." Palmonka's efforts are working. She said Miley is getting stronger every day and should be just fine when she grows up. "She'll be on the petite side, but that's okay because she's a girl. I think most girls like that." "I need somewhere to store it. A deep freezer is extremely important, crucial for what we need right now. We can't afford it at the moment,” Palmonka said. “It's my daughter's life. I can't give up on her." An account has been set up to raise money for milk and a freezer. There are two ways to contribute. PS, if u want to donate milk i have this moms facebook, phone, email and where they live in PA! Along with dropcenters in PA! (( theres not a ton of dropcenter but there are a few )) I totally belive this just shows why us moms need to come together and support one another!! ![]() Advertisement

The mama is about an hour and a half from me. I'm tandem bf now, so I don't know if I can get any extra, but I'm going to try.
Miley is 7 lbs now and 3 months old. I can't imagine - my dd was born bigger than that.... She's thriving though. And Julie has 2 1/2 mos worth of milk stored - not a lot, but a good start.

I don't understand why her doctor isn't writing prescriptions for breast milk, if that's what she needs. Milk banks here charge $4 an ounce, but a whole supply only costs the same as a prescription if your doctor gives you one -- which they will, for babies who can't drink formula or who are preemies.

If you live near state college, a mama there makes a trip down to Tyrone every so often with donated milk from a bunch of different mamas in the area. I assume it's for this mama. She arranges part of it through the attachment parenting group of state college on yahoo groups. You can PM me for more info/ direct link to the group.
