So far, I've had no stains that sunning won't get out. I think it's an urban legend.

The poo residue happened to us with natural detergents. We use amway detergent now with no problems.

powdered tide he.

I too have a top loading he. I doubt your stink is buildup -- more likely bacteria.

I don't really believe in buildup, at least not buildup being as common as many state. I've used Tide powder, LOTS of tide powder, for years. I have not had stink, I have not had repelling, I have not had absorbency issues. I do have clean diapers.

Re: I CAN NOT get my diapers clean! PLEASE HELP!

I found that TIDE was the only thing that worked, I would do a rinse cycle to rinse off the urine/poo as I don't believe washing them on a full cycle with pee and poo sloshing around is a good idea. Get rid of the urine/pee first, and of course adding tons of water.

Then I would do full cycles with extra rinses, the first one with half the amount of detergent, the second with none. This did worked for awhile but that was a lot of extra work for the HE machine and definately not good for our electric bill with all the extra washes. We broke and got a cheap old top loader from Craigslist.

Try doing a rinsing off of the urine/poo first?

Re: I CAN NOT get my diapers clean! PLEASE HELP!

It does sound like bacteria buildup to me, not detergent. Like you said, it shouldn't be hard! Treat it like you do whites! That's all I do. Have for 6 yrs and never 1 odor issue. What has worked for us is, tide, dropps, and arm and hammer. I also add bleach to every load, yes evry item gets it, lol. I fill my drawer, so somewhere around 1/4 cup bleach? You can dilute it as much as you like. Specialty detergents do not work for every family.
You should not have to be stripping!!

I'm soooo sorry you are dealing with this!! Big huggs hun!

Oh I don't know if it has been mentioned but one thing that does help that I use is the oxy clean, I use the free and clear version. For some reason it is a great laundry booster and I never feel my dipes get as clean with out it but it could all be in my head...LOL...but it is worth a try maybe it will work for you

I had issues with not getting my diapers clean enough too, resulting in strong ammonia smell when bb pees in it. I recently revamped my wash routine and it has helped A LOT! Occasionally, if i have too many diapers in there, I still run into trouble, but mostly they are good. Here is my new routine:

I set my washer to WHITES setting and on a 15 minute cycle.

Cold water rinse and spin
HOT ( I turn up the water temp to 120- this really made a difference for me) wash with 1/2 scoop of country save detergent
Cold wash with no detergent
Cold water rinse and spin IF needed

Could it be that your water is not hot enough? I've found that when mine isn't, like if i forgot to turn up the heat, the diapers don't get clean as well. Hope this helps!
