(another) What cover for a newbie

I know there are a million threads on this, but DS2 is in the NICU and I just dont have the stamina to search for them

DS1 started out 7-13 and was over 9lbs by two weeks so I never had to really worry about newbie stuff. But DS2 is 19.5", was 6-9 and is down to 6-4 now. I was planning to use covers and prefolds but he seems so skinny. What works best for chicken legs??

TIA!

Re: (another) What cover for a newbie

I thought my Bummis SuperBrite cover worked really well when my baby was brand new...he weighed 7 lbs, 7 oz and was 6 lbs, 14 oz when we came home. I considered him to have skinny legs. I didn't get the hang of folding the prefold and snappi business for a few weeks though so I always just trifolded the prefold and laid it in the cover.

My other favorite super small cover was from Bright Star baby in their newborn size...these were the smallest I had in my assortment but they worked great.

i also have heard good things about bummis superbrites for newbs, as well as thirsties xs. i think anything with gussets will give you a more snug fit around the leg. i loved bummis super whisper wraps for dd, but we didn't start with them until she was at least a month or so.

i hope your ds gains strength quickly and gets to come home soon!

Re: (another) What cover for a newbie

Aww hugs mama, I know how hard it is when baby is in the nicu I hope its nothing serious.

My youngest was 6lbs 9oz at birth, but dropped to 6lbs even quickly (and stayed there for a month, we had jaundice issues and she would eat but was very very sleepy, but she wasn't bad enough for hospitalization). I used cloth from the start. What worked the best for us was actually Flip covers, they were huge one her but never leaked, despite the gaps! We used Thirsties duo's in 1's as well, and those fit her very well-but ours leaked all the time. I want to assume it was a fluke though, since they get such rave reviews, and our 2's never leaked. Thirsties assumed it was user error though (heh, I've CD'd 5 kids, I don't think it was my fault! The darned prefold would barely be wet, yet the legs were wicking).

They also didn't have them at the time, but the Rumparooz covers look like they'd fit tiny too.

the bummis super brite super duper tiny! I don't think you could anything larger than a preemie prefold or gmd orange in that cover! plus this cover looks really comfy for baby, love the binding they use

Re: (another) What cover for a newbie

thanks mamas! I'll grab some up.

He's doing better. It was serious enough for him to be airlifted after being in the nursery for 2 days to a NICU on a ventilator for 2 days. He's been getting better every day though and is now just on a little flow of room air and gets to resume breastfeeding with the next feed tonight. Hopefully we'll get to go home in a few days- I'm crossing my fingers!

I just said a prayer for your little man!
Dd is a chicken leggie too! She was born at 7-1 and dropped to 6-5. We may be at 8 lbs now at a month old.
I love our bummis super brites but my favorite cover with pfs and fitteds is imse vimse organic cotton. I love that there is no exposed PUL and we have a ton of room to grow still. She is wearing the preemie size right now and will fit in them for a long time still!

we're using the bummi superbrites as well for our LO born 6lbs 5oz. He's probably around 6-10 now, but everything else is still too big. He's got a skinny bottom and skinny legs.

thanks mamas. I'll check out the Imse Vimses because I dont love when there's exposed PUL but it seems hard to get away from it!
