duration of pump session?

I hear it's best to empty each breast compeltely, but I als hear it's best to do 15-20 min/side. Well, at 20 minutes, I'm not done! I often finally get a nice flow at 15 min or so, and the flow will keep going a good 30+ minutes.
What do I do, do I stop pumping at 20 min or keep going until I"m out? At work there are alot of scheduling issues if I pump for 30 min, so often stop early at 15-20, but then I only get 1-3 oz total (which makes it hard to convince myself to take that break to pump). At night after my angel is down I pump each side, often 30-45 min/side (when the flow stops).

Any suggestions?

Thank you!!!!!

Have you tried compressions and turning up the intensity of the pump to empty quicker? I find when I get up in the morning to do the first pump of the day, I can either be hooked up for an hour, or do a ton of compressions and get done in 20-30 minutes.

Compressions really help me too. I only have 15 minutes to pump at work and I get 2 let downs and if I had more time I would get the 3rd let down at around the 20 minute mark. I guess pump as long as you can. Maybe one of your pump breaks try to pump for the 30 and the other for 15 minutes.

What kind of pump do you use? can you turn the suction up more? are you double pumping? Try to heat them before you pump so your letdown comes a little quicker.

Definitely pump till they are 'empty'. You want to encourage more production, right?!

Sounds like you need to let down faster. Is the pump going really fast in the beginning until you let down? Then you can slow it down to a normal pace. I would turn up the suction and do compressions. It takes me about 8 minutes to pump. 10 if I'm pretty full, but DS is a fast eater.

Can someone describe the compressions. I get about 13oz total in my morning pump. It takes about 25-30 min though.
