What can I use to clean pump parts at work?

I know there are Medela wipes but they seem expensive. Can you use other sanitizing wipes? I just want to wipe them off then clean them thoroughly when I get home. any help would be nice. thanks

Re: What can I use to clean pump parts at work?

A tip I found on another thread here was just to put them in the fridge between pumping sessions. That worked well for me. I would rinse them with water and then stick them in the fridge.

I have the medela wipes... I wouldn't use them for everyday. You can't really wipe everywhere, so I don't feel like they get all the way clean. The little crevices are still milky. I have used them in a pinch when I can't wash or store them cold, but I always rinse first to get most of the milk out/off and just use the wipe to sanitize it.

That's what I do too. I just put them in my cooler bag with the bottles and put it all in the fridge. Then I wash everything at night for the next day.

I do the fridge thing too...but I also have the medela steam bags (they're like $5 for a 5 pack) taht I keep one of in my pump bag--because some days, something icky can happen at work (like dropping them on the floor in the break room or my car interior. ick) and then all I need to sterilize them is 3 minutes and a microwave.

great tips ladies. I pray I can produce enough milk to have to pump at work. I'm just thinking positive.

I never even rinsed at work. I just put the whole assembly in my "dirty" ziplock and washed them when I got home.

I use the medela wipes at work when I have no water to wash my parts. It has worked just fine. They are expensive but worth it if you are out with no water.

This is a great tip. I just put mine in the freezer "fridge to go" bag until the next use.

You can also get additional parts fairly cheaply and then have more than one clean set ready to go, saving all the washing for when you get home.

I use the Medela wipes in the morning and nothing in the afternoon, then wash at home.

There is no sink where I pump, and I can barely fit my milk in our fridge, let alone the pump pieces.

I find the wipes too large, so I cut them in half and that's just the right size.

i am a hospice registered nurse so i work out of my car for 8 to 10 hours 3 days a week. i put water in water bottles and rinse my pump with that along the side of the road =D it has worked for me. if i drop something i do use a medela wipe> i also cut it in half. usually one 16 ouce bottle for every pumping i do. i just wash them good with soap and water when i get home. i usually only sterilize 2-3 times a week.
