Ultrasound tomorrow...what can I expect?

I am 16 weeks, 2 days tomorrow and getting an ultrasound. I REALLY want to know the gender of this baby!

How likely is it that they will even try to look at the gender? This is my biggest fear, that they will just say it's too early and not even try!

How likely is it that if they do look at the gender, they will be able to tell (assuming baby cooperates)?

Am I too early still to see? I have heard/seen u/s earlier than mine that you can tell!

Please reassure me that they will at least try!

It's possible to have a go at the gender at 16 wks, but I wouldn't take the result as gosple.

Re: Ultrasound tomorrow...what can I expect?

Your best bet is to ask...many times they will not actively look for gender because it is not medically needed, but if you have a nice tech they will try to see.

I'd ask and hopefully you have a nice tech who is willing to try. Goodluck and update us.

Never hurts to ask. We have found out accurately at 16, 15 and 14 weeks with our last three.

Re: Ultrasound tomorrow...what can I expect?

Wow, I'm shocked so many tech's would be unwilling to "even try" as people above have put it. Of course the U/S is to look at the medically necessary elements of the baby developing, but obviously the vast majority of parents will expect and want to know the gender of their child, even if the gender isn't important to them. Our tech was fabulous and I think my U/S was at around 18 wks. When she said "boy" and showed us, I asked how much of a chance there was of the gender being incorrect, and she said she'd personally help me return the blue baby items if "he" came out a "she." She was right.
