I use Ultra powder. I have hard water, so yes after a while they build up a smell. I run a bleach wash and rinse, rinse, rinse when I notice a smell.

How much of the Ultra Tide do you use? I've been wanting to use Tide and don't know how much to use.

I've been using Tide F&C liquid, and my pail smells like ammonia. The diapers don't smell right away upon getting wet, but after a day my DD's room reeks of ammonia when you open the door. I just bought a box to regular powder (not ultra) from Big Lots and am going to give that a try because the smell is horrible.

Re: Tide users

Back before Tide switched to Ultra I had been using Tide Free & Gentle up to line -1- and never had build up or stink or rashes, ever. Now that they have this Ultra crap I have to use up to the -2- line AND add extra stuff to it. But no, my microfiber has never stunk at all and I've only ever used the powder.

Re: Tide users

See, I would love to do this now that I have a good top loader & a water softener, but all the possible "problems" have me "ascared"!!! I'm using RNG soft rock & it seems to be working well so far. If I leave my diapers in the pail for 3 days, I smell ammonia.... So if I were to use ultra in a top loader w/soft water, what would a good routine be & would there not be build-up from the soap being difficult to rinse?

OP, before we got the water softener & I couldn't find my Bac-out, I was using a small amount of Tide Ultra with my RNG hard rock- in the prewash. No issues.
