Try to get what you can from the dollar store and see if there are parents willing to donate. You are definitely going to have to get creative.

Re: No recess for first grade???

My DD didn't have morning snack in 1st. She had lunch, recess(15 min i think it was) and that was it. Sometimes they would have snack in the afternoon if someone brought stuff in for birthday or whatever. Kindergarten she still didn't have a morning snack but had an afternoon one provided by the school.

No recess would be not fun but it won't hurt them I don't think. They get gym couples times a week right?

Re: No recess for first grade???

yes it is sad. Add that to the list of why more and more kids are being labeled as 'obese'. These kids are 5,6,7 - not 17 and about to enter college (not that they don't need physical activity too), there can't be anything in the world that is so important at that very second that little kids don't get to move a bit. Makes me sad.

I agree with trying to get some movement games going. Shapes etc on the ground too would be good, where they have to walk around and stand on the correct one and what not

I am so glad my kiddos school is going the other way, they just added another 30 minutes of outside play to their schedule! I think if he had to go to a school with no recess I would consider all other options, boys especially need to move to learn!

Re: No recess for first grade???

My son only got twenty minutes for lunch and twenty minutes for recess in public school, which I think is just way too little. When I was young, we had 3 twenty minute recesses. I think the no child left behind is really gotten rid of playtime and is one of the factors for us choosing homeschool this year.

Me, too. We have the same amount of recess as always, but PE just got bumped from twice a week to four times a week.

Re: No recess for first grade???

That is really bad. Children that age NEED physical movement frequently. In between lessons could just have them get up and hop in a circle around the room and back to their desks? I know it wouldn't be enough, but gosh they need something. Do they leave the classroom for any other lessons? Poor kids and teacher.
