I would love some suggestions for "good night" songs to sing to Charlie. Tell me some of your favorite peaceful songs. What do you sing to your kids?

They don't need to be traditional lullabies ... think songs from movies, musicals, hymns, spirituals, classic rock, folk music.

(I'm really excited to hear what people come up with. Thanks!)

Re: Lullabies?

We sing Down in the Valley the most.

But a very popular cd we played for each child all the time was the Bob Marley Rock A Bye . And then we'd sing along to that. I never did find the Metallica Rock a Bye very soothing though.

Moon River! After hearing Audrey Hepburn sing it in Breakfast at Tiffany's I've known I always wanted to use it as a lullaby!

Re: Lullabies?

We sing lots of different kinds of songs at night. We do some church ones, mostly the ones that mention the moon and stars like "For the Beauty of the Earth." My son LOVES that one and knows all the words. I have a kids version of it that he listens to when I'm running. The 90's girl in me loves to sing him I'll Be by Edwin McCain, although I usually change the words "love suicide" to whatever pops into my head at the moment. There's this one called "Appalachian Lullaby" that we love, and also "Sweet Baby James." But really, anything goes. He always asks for "Boogey Brains" which is a song his Dad made up one night, basically saying that everyone has boogies for brains...and if he needs extra snuggles I always end up singing every song I know...

We sing Puff the Magic Dragon almost every night My mom sang it to me when I was little. My husband sings both me and my daughter a German song about elephants. Its adorable and I love it when he sings it because he doesn't do it often so it's extra special.

Re: Lullabies?

I sang (and still do) constantly with the kids. Mostly rennie music but some other stuff. Kearnan loved Black Bird by The Beatles and Beautiful Boy by John Lennon, also Imagine by John Lennon. Gypsy Love Song, Queen of Night, Barley Moon and Applebee Faire are also his favorites but I don't know if anyone else knows those.

For Tharen it has to be songs from the Last Unicorn sound track. In The Sea, Man's Road and The Last Unicorn. He didn't like music much as a tiny baby. In the Sea would stop his cry instantly no matter what. I had a CD of the sound track too for in the car. He also will tolerate Story Book Love from The Princess Bride.

Re: Lullabies?

I sing the chorus of Quincy Coleman's song "Baby don't you cry"...also called "the pie song". Here's a youtube of it:
It was featured in the movie "Waitress". My 4 year old knows the word and sings it to my 4 month old too.

Here's the lyrics:
Baby don't you cry gonna make a pie
Gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle
Baby don't be blue
Gonna make for you
Gonna make a pie with a heart in the middle
Gonna be a pie from the heaven above
Gonna be filled with strawberry love
Baby don't you cry
Gonna make a pie
Hold you forever in the middle of my heart.
