Tea Tree and other oils

What do Tea Tree and other essential oils do in the wash? I've read some posts that mamas add a few drops of tea tree oil and I'm just curious. Does it leave behind a strong tea tree oil smell?

Re: Tea Tree and other oils

I love my TTO. It makes my laundry room smell really strong, and it kinda goes througout the house, but not as strong as when I open the door. After the dipes are dry the smell is barely there. I use about 1-2 tsp when I did in the wash, dd had several yeast infections, that's why I used so much. Most moms, that's I've heard of, only use about 10-20 drops though. It took care of the yeast, didn't cause any repelling. The smell in the house was gone by the end of the day, and the smell in the laundry room was gone by the time I washed the next load of clothes. I kinda like the smell of it though, it smells clean.

TTO is anti bacterial, anti fungal and anti viral. I've never used enough so that I can smell it once it dries. I can smell it a bit before they go in the dryer but not a lot. I like to use it in my regular laundry as well. I never get the old laundry smell even if I forget to put it in the dryer right away.

I use about 12 drops in my diaper wash. I can smell it after the washer but not after the dryer. I ran out several months ago and drag my feet buying more. I started to notice that my diapers didn't smell as clean to me. I didn't actually get stink issues, they just didn't seem as fresh. I bought more and they smell fresh and clean again.

Is tea tree the only essential oil that mama's use on their dipes or are there others, and if so what are the benefits?

All EOs oils have antimicrobial effects but TT oil has the greatest. Another oil w/ high antimicrobial effects is lavender oil and it is safe to use on skin and babies. This safety issue is not true of all EOs. Orange oil has high effects but there are sensitivity issues w/ using orange oil on skin. BTW, TT oil is not safe on skin when used in high quantities which is why it must be diluted.
