gdiapers- red marks?

I've been using gDiapers on DD for about a month now and I can't decide if I like them. The little snaps that attach the liner to the cotton pants leave red marks on her hips. The elastic around her legs and around the tummy leave marks also. They're really bad after being in a sling or after a nap on her side.

I'm new to cloth, so not sure if this is normal with all cloth diapers? My main worry is that the marks will get worse as she gets bigger and that the diapers are uncomfortable for her. She's 12 lbs and in the mediums now, and these are supposed to last until she's 28 lbs. Any thoughts? Other mama's have good/bad experience with gDiapers and can recommend alternatives?

Thanks!!

i started with gdiapers too, and while they are cute, easy and convenient i've have found much much much nicer ways to cloth diaper! red marks are not normal, its a sign that either the fit or style is not working for your baby.

It's good to know that red marks are not normal. What did you do instead of the gDiapers?

Like I said, i'm new to CDing (DD is 3 months old), and am not sure where to start!

Re: gdiapers- red marks?

i used g diapers to start and got the same red lines switched to thirsties duo wrap covers size 1 and discovered that gdiapers biodegradable inserts fit into the thirsties. we just moved up to the next size i bought a combination of flips and thirsties and am using prefolds this time

I started with G's too. The snaps from the liners left red indents on my kids, and I just didn't love them. I switched to Flips and I am so happy I did. They're a one size so they'll fit him great now at 12 lbs and my 37lb 3 yr old still wears one at nap. They work alot like the G's, but without the snap in liner. You just tuck whatever you want to stuff them with (Flip liners, prefolds, flats, whatever) under flaps in the front and back and they stay put in the waterproof cover. I love the Flips. IMO Gdiapers are not worth the money or the frustration

Re: gdiapers- red marks?

I agree, it seems like a lot of us got into cloth by starting with gDiapers. I too have sold them all off and moved on. Red marks are a sign of an improper fit, too tight elastic, or a reaction to the material.

Just like what was said above, Flips or Thirsties are great if you like the lay in liner style of the gDiapers.

It just didn't seem like they were built to last. I didn't hate them like so many other people seem to, I just knew I wasn't making a good investment. The snaps wear out or rip off over time and the elastic in the liners wear out really fast. I know I read somewhere that you are supposed to replace the liners ever 3-6 months for that very reason. (If you do want to do that replacement liners are about $20 a box and available on the gDiapers website)

Re: gdiapers- red marks?

I started with gDiapers and hated them too. The snap in liner dug so far into my baby's legs and I made sure they were in the creases. She has always been skinny so I found it ridiculous. I gave them another try last month and they still leave red marks. I think there are way better cloth diapers out there and I hate that a lot of people start with gDiapers and give up because they think all cloth is like that. I switched to the Flip system after gDiapers and liked it so much more.

both the flips and the thirsties are great and reasonably priced covers. i would def recommend trying the flips, i think they still have seconds on cottonbabies. if you have the Gcloth that might work in the flips or the thirsties.
other than that maybe just trying a few of a bunch of different diaper styles off the FSOT. that way you can experiment and see what works best for you and your LO. i've tried a bit of everything and found that natural fiber fitteds and flip covers work best for us.

Re: gdiapers- red marks?

It depends on the red marks. My DS gets red marks from everything; from all different types of diapers to clothes he wears to a blanket he lays on. As long as they are not REALLY red with deep indentations they should be ok; they should be like the marks your LO gets when wearing clothes.

I have been using gdiapers since my DS was about a month old and we still use them (he's almost 6 months). I know there isn't a lot of gdiaper love here on this board though. I agree with the other posters that trying different types of diapers and see what works best for you.

Re: gdiapers- red marks?

I put my Gdiaper inserts in different covers, I like best bottoms alot but right now wee huggers is my favorite because it has the soft flaps to hold the liners in. It's a snugger fit than some covers but that just makes for a trimmer look. Its nice quality. I'm going to try flips next, i hear good things, but I love the wee huggers prints :0)

Oh and my twins are three months tomorrow!
