My son wasn't a big tantrum thrower; he was more of a whiner (still is ). I think he's had more tantrums now, at an older age, than he ever did as a toddler.

DD, on the other hand, is giving me a run for my money. I'm pretty sure she had her first one before she hit 1 year. She's so dramatic about it, though, and if I ignore it, they stop almost as quick as they started.

OP, I think you ought to define tantrum. It seems that we all have different ideas of what one is and usually, it's just something more exciting than what our own kids do.

That said, my little ones first started intentionally expressing their displeasure with things by the time they were able to crawl and have a definite goal.

Tantrums- I mean the all out throwing themselves on the floor and screaming... or at least the equivalent for the particular child. Not just displeasure. A meltdown.

DD doesn't throw herself on the floor, but she screams bloody murder and will kick walls when she is in timeout, slam doors, throw things. She was a angel until close to 3 then she broke loose. She has still never thrown a fit any where but our home- Thank Goodness!

Re: At what age did your LO start having tantrums?

My odd was 11 months and my ds was between 12-18 months. I remember thinking that it was way too early for my dd to have a tantrum but she pitched herself on the floor and went all out. She still has emotions that run high. My ds tantrums were never as extreme as my dd's. His started after a year and his used to make me laugh. He would do this ostrich thing with his head and act all dramatic. The baby definitely is vocal about her displeasure and gets mad but I don't consider them tantrums yet. Hopefully that means she won't be as emotional as my oldest and she also is showing signs she won't be a get into everything and high energy toddler like my ds.

12-18 months for my DD. She would arch her back, throw herself on the floor, kicking and screaming. It lasted until she turned 3 (literally, the day she turned 3 she was like a different child). I would say we definitely experienced the terrible 2's (starting at around 18 months at that ).

DS is 14 months and much more mellow so far. He hasn't had a tantrum yet... although I'm sure they'll be coming at some point in the future lol.

About 9 months...pretty much as soon as she started walking well. They are a daily part of life now.
