Re: How many books for kids?

I agree with those who said Dr. Seuss. I have YET to meet a baby/toddler that didn't like Dr. Seuss. My son's favorites are "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" and "Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?"

Re: How many books for kids?

Your baby is still pretty young... if I were in your shoes I might for the time being make him some books, with photos of family members or pictures of toys, kids, animals from a magazine or something, while saving money for a large book purchase. Assuming it would be worth it/ save on shipping to order a large order at once?

My kids are older, 2.5 and 4.5 and I like to have a LOT of books for them. Like, our kids bookcase has probably 100 or more books on it. I am always buying books. However, I will only buy certain ones new, such as Dr Seuss. We are gifted a lot of Robert Munsch whose books are also pretty good. Other than that I buy from yard sales

Could you have your mom or a friend look for some $.10-$.75 books in a yard sale and send you a box?

If you are near to an American military base I'm sure you can find books (and other things) on one of their yardsale sites, like craiglist. They have them for most bases in Germany.
Otherwise 15-20 minimum would be in my collection for one child.

Must have books are anything by Julia Donaldson. Fortunately she's been quite prolific because i get bored quickly even if ds doesn't!
I LOVE Julia Donaldson too. We picked up Gruffalo's Child on our way through Gatwick one year and now have the entire collection. Fab books.

I was just peaking at amazon.de and the English kids books seem pretty cheap. Lots under 6euros? Although I also see that the UK Amazon is cheaper for the same books. Do they ship to Germany or just the UK?

Anyway, just look at our book shelf. There are pobabbly 20 permanant books. Others may pass through or library books, but 20 is a good day to day number.

Re: How many books for kids?

We go to yard sales all the time and I would be happy to pick you up some and mail them to you. I get them for 25-50 cents usually, so I could get a pretty good stack of them and send them to you in a flat rate box for around $50. I know I would hate paying that much for shipping on something so cheap, but if it would be that much cheaper than buying them there, then maybe it would be worth it?

Just let me know. I've got some of ours I could send you and I'm always picking up more.

Re: How many books for kids?

We have a lot of books and we buy books almost daily as well as having a dr seuss subscription in the mail come monthly. I think you can never have too many. Have you tried a subscription? Can someone from the US ship you some? The shipping may be costly but the books can be very cheap when bought at a used book store and yard sales.

We have a lot but some faves are: Goodnight moon, Green eggs and ham, I love you Stinky Face, Kiss your cat, and a huge book of nursery rhymes.
