My friend had a summer video monitor set but her neighbor also had one and her neighbor actually called her one day to say she could see in her babys room from her house, it was throwing the feed across the street to someone elses house! That alone scared me!

Philips has GREAT customer service. We had issues with two of our Philips monitors that were really not their fault (more ours) and they replaced them free of charge. I LOVE their customer service and wouldn't buy another brand b/c of this!

Yes, our local news did a story about the security risk posed by baby monitors with wireless cameras - see link.

Hey, Im only 2 hours south of indy!
We have 9 registered sex offenders within 1 mile of our house so the thought that they could be watching my baby somehow made me decide not to do video monitors.

Re: Baby monitor recs

Interesting...my husband actually prefers to buy Sony whenever possible (TV, bluray-player, cd-player,...) but because of the bad reviews on babies r us we decided against the Sony. We got the Secure Coverage Digital Monitor - 1 Parent Unit by Graco ($45) instead. And I have to say, I love it! It is a simple monitor without anything special, but the transmission is very clear, you can hear all the little tiny noises she makes and it works even when we're downstairs and she's upstairs.
