Can he eat a nut butter sandwich?

This is probably silly. I'm not concerned about allergies. Ds likes almond butter & is old enough for honey (just turned a year last week). He has 8 teeth. Can he handle biting into & swallowing a sandwich? Or will it get stuck our something?

Usually the recommendation is to wait until they're older for an actual sandwich with a nut butter because the consistency is thick enough it can be a choke hazard.....my LO is 2 and only just started getting small amounts of nut butter smeared on a plate to dip puffs and/or pretzels. HTH!

Thank you, I think that is exactly what I was wondering. I've given him little tastes off a spoon, will just stick to that.

Re: Can he eat a nut butter sandwich?

I gave DS nut butters on crackers at that age. Just a thin coat -- he loved it. He's gotten sandwiches for a few months now, but he's approaching two.

Also, sunflower butter is a bit thinner in consistency so you could possibly try that on bread first?

Re: Can he eat a nut butter sandwich?

I spread peanut or almond butter thinly on toast but cut it up...because otherwise the whole piece goes in her mouth *sigh*.

But actually she gets it rarely because the daycare is nut free and they ask, if possible, that the kids don't have PB for breakfast.

DD is 19 months but I started her on nuts at about 9.5 mo. DH will eat other nut butters but not PB, I buy the natural nut butters (no sugar or salt).

We do sandwiches (all kinds) starting at about 13 months. I think. Kinda hard to remember with the first couple. They do really well. It did take some practice

Mine was younger. We have no allergies and BLW. PB is a favourite here.

Re: Can he eat a nut butter sandwich?

I see no problem as long as you toast it first, it is the soft bread consistency with the butters that I could see being a little tricky.
