So I just found a lot of boxes of the original tide (not ultra). But, I have an HE machine. Have you ever used that original version in your HE washer?
I have been using the new ultra tide HE, and it has been working okay, but I need to strip more than I would like. Also, sometimes things just don't smell as clean as I would like (including our towels) and I have to wash and rinse again.

Re: Original Tide Users w/ HE washers?
When I first got my new washer many years ago, it was a top loader HE, but I didn't read the directions... and never realized. I was using liquid regular Tide. I did have troble with "grease looking stains". When the repairman came out he verified I was using HE soap. Well I wasn't obviously
but he didn't tell on me. I couldn't remember all he said, but this is what I found on yahoo.... WHY: All front loading, and a few top loading, washers, use small, high speed, water pumps. When these pumps are called on to pump, the very small pump will turn very fast trying to move as much water as its much larger, older cousins. If there is even the slightest amount of SUDS-MAKING detergent in the water, the small pump will instantly turn the water to suds, thus locking down the pump. The washer will sense this lock down, thus shutting down the washer with an LD (long drain) or SL (suds lock) code. Sorry. Lose the Tide. The HE detergent is more expensive, will NOT make suds, but will keep you out of hot water.

Re: Original Tide Users w/ HE washers?
Yup, I was told to only use HE detergents. Same as above, I heard if your using reg detergent and your washer craps out on you they will know it's bc of the suds from the reg detergent and it will cancel out any warrenty's you may have on the washer. You can use tide, but it needs to be HE. =)

Re: Original Tide Users w/ HE washers?
My HE washer instructions specifically say it is okay to use non-HE detergents, just to use less. I have a Maytag FL, not sure the model or the year. I use Tide Free and Gentle powder, which is not HE...I just use a little less than recommended and all is well.

Re: Original Tide Users w/ HE washers?
Any other Tide users care to weigh in on this?
I have an HE FL machine, which is not new (doubt there is a warranty to worry about - we inherited it when we moved in to this house). The only Original Tide powder I can find anywhere around here is non-HE. I bought a box but I'm a little hesitant to use it. I just did one load with a very small amount (maybe 2 TBS) and it seemed to rinse clean after 2 extra rinses, but I'm just washing a bunch of used diapers right now to prep for my newborn who isn't here yet... so no experience as far as washing dirty diapers as of yet. I'm hoping to avoid the Ultra, but not sure I can find Original HE powder anywhere... if you have any suggestions please let me know! Last edited by trellisaze; 09-27-2011 at 03:25 AM. |

Re: Original Tide Users w/ HE washers?
I use regular Tide in my HE- don't know anything about locking it up- I've never had a problem. I've baan using it for close to a year- I use about 2 TBSP. I still was having stink issues as far as needing to strip way more than I felt I should have to- I've since added in a scoop of Oxy clean type powder, and it seems to have done the trick.
Mine is a Kenmore HE FL- I think they are made by Maytag- but I could be wrong!

Quote:
I was just in Target today and the ONLY powder they had was Ultra and Ultra w/ Downy, both were non-HE versions! And then a whole freaking aisle of Liquid Tide in a million different versions. |
