7 Week Loss :(
I just found out today that I'm about to miscarry.
I should have been prepared for this because there were tons of warning signs....consistently low hcg, nothing (not even a sac) at last week's ultrasound, no morning sickness or symptoms, etc. But still, I'm shocked. I kept expecting something to change and for us to somehow have a healthy baby at the end of this. They did another ultrasound today and there was no change. The doctor covering for my doctor while he's out of town wanted to start me on a med to cause me to miscarry, but I said no. I went home and started having a ton of cramping. A few hours later, I started spotting. I called my doctor's office and they said they were just about to call me because my hcg had gone down. The nurse said I didn't have to worry about getting on that medication until my doctor gets back next week, unless something changes. I was hoping I'd miscarry on my own, but the spotting has almost stopped now. I really don't want any other interventions, I just want my body to do what it needs to do. I feel like having other interventions is just going to make this worse than it already is. On the other hand, though, I don't really want to carry a pregnancy that isn't viable for any longer than I already have. I guess I really just don't know what to expect. Is it normal for the spotting to stop and then to start bleeding again? What should I expect as far as flow and pain? How long will it last and when will my normal period return? I know all of those answers will depend on my body, but I guess it would be nice to hear what happened for other people, so I have some idea of what to expect.

I'm so sorry mama. I know that pain, that clinging to hope all too well.
With many of my losses, there were a few days of start and stop spotting before the actual loss. I've been lucky that my body has always managed to complete the job on it's own. But it's a very personal decision on whether to take the meds or not. Big hugs coming your way. Sent from my iPhone using DS Forum |

Re: 7 Week Loss :(
I am so sorry mama. Did they have any concern about a possible ectopic? If you start having any pain please call your doctor or go to the ER. I had a few days of spotting before I had my ectopic confirmed by a specialist.

I'm sorry mama
I didn't have start and stop bleeding but bled a ton straight through the whole thing, once the baby passed, I bled two additional days then it stopped. I got af a few weeks later.

Re: 7 Week Loss :(
mama, I'm so very sorry you are going through this. I found out on 7/21 that my baby's heart had quit beating... and I'm STILL waiting for my body to naturally MC. I had a MC years and years ago at about 6w. And I don't remember too many details about how long the bleeding lasted or when AF returned. I do remember that it was mostly like a heavy period. I did have one day where I cramped up pretty bad a few times, but each time I would pass a clot and feel much better. I also had a MC back in Feb., though I was quite a bit farther along than 7w, I did start spotting and then stop again. It was probably a couple weeks from that point before I actually MC. Then I bled for about 3 weeks, very similar to PP AF and it was about 4 weeks after that that AF returned. I think I must have a stubborn uterus. I really hope it happens soon for you and you are able to pass everything naturally. Sending you lots of healing vibes. ((HUGS))

Re: 7 Week Loss :(
![]() So, so sorry, mama. For my early losses (all of them before 6w), the m/c was like an extremely heavy, clotty, painful AF. I don't get regularly timed AF due to mild PCOS (cycles usually around 35-ish days, with occasional forrays into the 60-day range, and one 28 I never could explain). However, it didn't take any longer than "normal" to get my next one. As much as your heart already saw the baby as a baby, at that stage your body generally hasn't changed enough to really throw it off after a loss. As for the pill - if you want to hold off, don't let them force it on you. I had a friend whose body didn't let go of the baby until significantly after it had passed, but she didn't suffer any detrimental physical effects from having waited. The main thing is to keep an eye on yourself for signs of infection. So sorry you have to go through this.
