Ok, so my last two posts got no responses.

I dove head into making diapers and selling them online without quite realizing there was so much involved. I want to make this work but I don't know how to go about making everything safe and legal. Perhaps it was stupid to start without doing more research. I just didn't know

I have read and read and read all about starting a home business and I feel like I have run in circles and am none the wiser about what I am doing

What do I NEED to do and what isn't that big of a deal?

I know we are all busy but if someone would like to explain in some simple non legal non governmental language what exactly is expected I would be eternally grateful!!!!!

Okay, here's the essentials as I remember it. If you want to do business legally, you need to obtain a business license in your city. If you make a profit, you will need to claim the income on your taxes.

Something about "article of incorporation". I'm in California as well, and it's $100. I know plenty of WAHMs who work without doing this. I am contemplating it as someone has already threatened to sick her "law team" on me and this way, the attack would go on the "company" not on me, my family, my professional license, etc.

There's a lot involved, but you do need to apply for a business license, as well as a resale license unless you're just wholesaling. You'd want to set up a business account, then you have to think about payment methods. If you're not using something like etsy or hc, you need to think about the website. THAT is a lot of work. It'd a hard process, but you will have accomplished a lot when you are done!

Oh my gosh I hadn't heard of a resale license. Does that depend on your state or is it pretty universal?

I know I need to try to get some sort of business account do you have any recommendations for what bank is good to use?

I use hc right now and it works for the time being.
