Ughh... sick and pregnant, home remedies?

This week has been just unpleasant with headache, sore throat, fever, congestion... the works. And since it is a cold, I just have to wait it out. What did you use to feel better? I would love to be able to breathe, sleep and function as a parent.

I have suffered 2 times already with colds & flu this pg (25w). Rest is huge. Hot baths & lemon/honey really helped. Other than that i suffered. Thankfully last cold hit sunday. Dh was home, so i kicked most of it in one day.

Humidifier helped a lot. Vitamin d will help you fight it better. Neti pot, or saline nasal wash squirt bottle thing. Baby vicks is safe but not grown up vicks. That was what I did that helped me recently.

At 36wks I had a horrific sinus infection for 17 days. Omg. The agony.

I took b6, garlic, and a few other herbs I forgot. I used a neti pot, saline, a heating pad, and Tylenol sparingly. Slept when my son did and prayed alot. Lol! Finally, day 17, I begged for antibiotics. I had given it two FULL weeks and it never improved. My midwife agreed, wholeheartedly. Lol. Anyways, relax as much as u can and man that neti pot helped the most!!

I got the world's worst cold this pregnancy, and curried onions with garlic worked WONDERS.

Funny this comes up, on the back of the door at my OBs office it said safe remedies for a cold while pregnant...
Throat lozenges, humidifier, saline nasal spray, Tylenol and regular Sudafed if over 12wks. Be seen if your fever is over 100.8 or have a persistent cough.

Thanks ladies... turns out it was a sinus infection, so I will add these to the prescription.

Yuck! I hear that's really common in pregnancy, but I'm sorry you're sick.

Re: Ughh... sick and pregnant, home remedies?

So sorry you're sick, mama! It's the worst to be sick and pregnant!

It sounded super gross to me, but when I was pregnant with a cold and desperate for relief, I tried the Netti Pot and it worked great for congestion, etc. I also drank a lot of ginger and mint teas. I also put a humidifier in my room at night and that helped a lot - I put some essential oils in the water (lavender and almond) because they were calming and nice. I sound like a total hippy! But when you can't take medicine, you go to the home remedies!

Good luck!
