How in the world do I get thin tortillas?

dude, that's MY recipe and I promise you mine don't puff up! LOL how long are you cooking them for? I literally only heat each side until the first bubble or two appears and then flip DH grew up eating tex-mex and mexican food and he loves my tortillas dang it! I prefer this recipe with milk and BP b/c it uses much less fat/oil

I KNOW! They taste awesome, but came out too thick, and I've tried them 3-4 times. I think I cooked them 20 seconds per side. I must be doing something wrong. Yours in the picture look very thin. I think I have a tortilla dysfunction!

Has anyone ever tried a tortilla press? I can get them thin enough, but it is SOOO much work with the rolling pin and takes forever. Just wondered if the press would make it easier. When I am rolling them out, I flip and roll, repeating until they are thin enough. I've never had them puff too mcuh when they are cooked.

I've never owned one but I used one oNce. Waxed paper!!!

yerp, DH bought one, better results by hand rolling for us! it sticks, they're still too thick, it's always a giant mess and hassle so I just have him roll them

you kind of have to use waxed paper on them. the presses work better for corn tortillas but does speed up the process for flour once you get into the groove. MY DH's work friends mom taught me, she spoke no english and I speak little spanish so take my advice FWIW She used 2 really thin sticks as a thickness guide when she finished rolling them out after pressing them. She kept them between waxed paper the whole flattening process

Funny this bumped! Yesterday I made 3 separTe batches. As the day went on it became very very humid and my dough felt more gooey or softer when rolling by the 3rd late afternoon batch even though I measured and used the same recipe. They progressively got fluffier!!!! I kneaded in more flour and used a screaming hot pan and that seemed to fix it. HTH!!!

I made these too (the recipe posted w/ just flour, salt,oil, water) but I think i 'slurped' a lil too much water in the food processor. Is it supposed to be a really thick dough?
And do I put any oil in the pan when frying them?
