Buying a used pump is it ok?

Are there safe ways to buy a used pump or should I bite the bullet and buy a new one?

It depends on the pump. Some are ok for multiple users, like the ameda purely yours and some are for single users.

Honestly I have the madela freestyle which is a single user one, but I think as long as you buy new parts that would actually touch milk I think it would be fine.

I bought my Pisa new, then got my Freestyle via trade on DS. And I only use my freestyle. Best trade ever!!!!!

Re: Buying a used pump is it ok?

I felt comfortable buying the Ameda Purely Yours used because it is a closed system pump. I would not feel comfortable buying the Medela pumps used because they are open system.

Bite the Bullet! My SIL just had her 2nd boy & took appart her Medela pump to make sure it was OK to use again & it was all moldy! It is soo worth it to know yours is "new" & safe!

Re: Buying a used pump is it ok?

My sister told me that tiny milk particles can get into the open system type pumps so if you got it from someone who had something (I'm not sure what kind of something) you can transfer that to your baby. Brje....I got mine from my sil, never thought about looking inside, I think I will have to do that now!

Yeah, I think it depends on the pump. I got a used PIS and just replaced the tubing and everything, so it was just the motor that was 're-used'. Now I have a new freestyle and same thing... I'd just replace all the tubing and pump pieces and re-use the motor.

I did this also with my PIS, and I'm currently using it with baby #2 with no problems.
