I need some help from any moms from Baton Rouge! We are adopting a baby boy from that area next month and will be living down there for 2 weeks. Any good recommendations for extended stay hotels or rental properties??? Restaurants? Cheap activities?

Thanks!

Re: Louisiana Moms

Have any of you delivered at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond? I just found out they have midwives. For my last delivery I drove from Covington to Baton Rouge to use the Ochsner Birth Center and had an amazing unmedicated birth experience. Hammond is half the distance, any opinions? The midwives are all CNM's Mary Byars, Amy Linn, Vicki Matherne & Peggy Gautreau.

Have you checked out vrbo.com? Might get someone to give you a deal for two weeks plus you will have a full kitchen and can cut down on food expenses. Restaurant wise it depends on what you like but here are my favs:

Strands cafe-coffee and the best pastries EVER ( have to get an almond croissant)- downtown on laurel

Rock n sake-sushi on Perkins (ask for a margarita roll-it's not on the menu)

Ninos-Italian in the warmest quietest atmosphere with the nicest people-on bluebonnet across from Perkins row shopping center (house made Alfredo is awesome)

California pizza kitchen-varied menu-in perkins row shopping center on bluebonnet

Pf changs-Chinese-ish on corporate by whole foods

Chimes-cajan and burgers and lots more-multiple locals (best is at north gate of lsu)

Voodoo BBQ-multiple locals (best also at north gate of lsu)

Louies-24 hr dinner dive (gotta get the loaded hashbrowns!!!) also at lsu north gate

Coyote blues-good Mexican-on acadiana I think

Bistro byrons-burgers, sandwiches, salads and lots more-on government (blue cheese chips are yum!)

Superior-Tex Mex-on government across from bistro byrons

Tsunami-sushi but you don't go for the food-it's as the top of the museum of art downtown and has the most amazing views of the river at sunset

Omg- canes! Nothing but chicken fingers but I could eat it every day and drink the sauce! They are everywhere around town.

For things to do:
Perkins row on Perkins for shopping
Lsu rural life museum for walking around-cool architecture and neat to see
Old capital downtown then walk across to see mississippi
Any of the plantations (12 oaks is amazing) if you have time to kill
GREAT farmers market (and art market if it's the first weekend) downtown on main St (go to strands first!!!)
Circa 1834 on government- super cool architectural salvage and art gallery
The zoo is pretty good for a smaller zoo

Feel free to pm me with questions! We have moved but miss BR terribly! Congrats on the baby!
