Use or Freeze?

I work on MWF only and, of course, had this Monday off for Labor Day. Today the babysitter's son got sick so I ended up being home with DS. I had put the milk I pumped last Friday into bottles for him to eat today. Since we didn't end up using them, I'm not sure if I should wait and send the bottles on Friday (after being refrigerated for 7 days) or just freeze that milk tonight and thaw some older pumped milk for Friday.

What would you do?

I'd freeze it now. My ped told me 3-5 days in the fridge, but that he prefers the low end as a precaution. Better safe than sorry IMO.

Medela guidelines are 48 hours in a regular fridge before milk starts to degrade and loose nutrients ... I freeze everything and defrost each night for the next day, but I had a stockpile before going back to work...

Re: Use or Freeze?

I have always heard 7-10 days in the fridge. [7-10 hours fresh at room temp, 7-10 days in the fridge, 7-10 months frozen] Mine never lasted that long though b/c of lipase, so that's not from personal experience. I would just drip a drop onto your finger and taste it. If it tastes fine, use it.

Kellymom says 8 days in the fridge: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/milkstorage.html

I'd freeze it myself.

Re: Use or Freeze?

I'd freeze too. I go by the 4/4/4 rule:
- 4 hours at room temp
- 4 days in the fridge
- 4 months in the freezer

Your right. I was confused and thinking about something else. :P I think most things say an average of 5 days fridge.

I'd definitely freeze it. I'm amazed at the huge difference in recommendations! Mine starts to go downhill (which I can tell just by smelling it) after 3 days.
