Early Intervention.. when to call?

My girls were 34 weekers. They spent 14 and 17 days in the NICU respectfully. They are now 5 months old adjusted age of 3 1/2 months. I have no idea what they should be doing. When I should call Early Intervention, when to worry. I feel like a brand new mom all over again with them.

Re: Early Intervention.. when to call?

We had my son in an Early On program her in MI for his speech starting at around 20 months. It was fantastic, they did a bunch of testing and we had an amazing therapist. I think we learned more then he did sometimes.

She worked also worked a lot with babies that were born early. I say this--if you have any concerns it can't hurt to call and have them evaluated. At the very least it will put you at ease and if there are things they can help with then that's a good thing as well.

Re: Early Intervention.. when to call?

My DS 2 is about to age out of the program (he was in for speech) and into the school system. He got into the program at 11 months. So I know the program is wonderful. Yeah I think I will call just to get a file started for them incase it becomes an issue down the road even if it's not now.

who do you contact for early intervention? I am thinking of having my son evaluated for speech but can't seem to figure out who to call.

Re: Early Intervention.. when to call?

It looks like Missouri has a similar program to MI's Early On program. First Steps: http://www.cap4kids.org/kansas_city/..._services.html

Re: Early Intervention.. when to call?

I'm actually an early intervention specialist, and I would definitely call and get a free assessment and advice. Like a PP said, even if you don't need help now, you may later, and its nice to get a file started. Plus, ease your mind!

Hello fellow MI mama! Onsted, that's crazy! I'm in Clinton!

I was wondering about this, as well. Not that I think DD needs it as of now, but it wouldn't hurt to talk to someone, since she's a preemie.

Re: Early Intervention.. when to call?

I would go ahead and call them and have them come do the evaluation. My older DD didn't qualify the first time around but they put her in the "follow along" program where they sent us a questionaire every month that I filled out and sent back, when she was right around 2 she qualified so they came out re-evaluated her and she started speech.
